What our clients say about our tours

  • Rob Williams is the best guide I have ever birded with – wonderful birding and people skills.

    PM, Peru
  • Our Madagascar experience surpassed our wildest dreams. We didn’t even realise it was a ‘birding trip’ but David ensured that we saw much much more. The birds were great anyway, especially the pursuit of the magical Helmet Vanga! An unforgettable experience!

    HH, Madagascar
  • Adam is very energetic and helpful.  He is an excellent birder and having spent 6 months living in PNG, he also had a good knowledge of other wildlife, as well as the culture.  I really enjoyed his company.

    SL, PNG II 2015
  • Forrest Rowland was a wonderful guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about birds and always takes the time to consider the wants, needs and priorities of the group. He works with his group to form a common goal. He was extremely professional and he had a remarkably positive attitude. His enthusiasm was infectious and admirable, as was his perseverance in finding us any species that we wanted and which was possible to see. Forrest is personable, humorous, and extremely generous and kind-hearted. I am so grateful to have met him.

    AG, Alaska
  • Markus gets A+++ marks from me.  Not only is he an excellent birder, but he is also a wonderful traveling companion.  Our conversations were varied and interesting.  He not only knows a lot about nature; he also participated in talks about a wide variety of subjects. We learned a lot about South Africa.  His sense of humor is wonderful.  His enthusiasm kept us all on a anticipatory high.  His leading a tour will be a big plus for me when I am deciding on another trip.

    SC, SA Mega & Kruger
  • Thailand was truly a wonderful trip! Markus is unbelievable in getting everyone on the bird! His recognizing and scoping of the birds is superb. Beyond this he is [also] a very kind man with a great personality who keeps things on an even keel, making sure there is lots of laughter. Because of this the group “gelled” very quickly . I plan to do more Rockjumper tours because of the information and encouragement he gave me and I hope he is the leader of at least some of the tours.

    PSR, Thailand
  • We found our guide, Andre Bernon to be extremely competent at finding and identifying birds. He also had an impressive range of knowledge about other biota, plus extensive knowledge of the local history.

    JT, South Africa 2017
  • During Oct 19 to Nov. 6, 2010 I participated in the Eastern South Africa and Western Cape Extension tour. It is the ultimate tour if you are birding for the first time in the African continent. The diversity of birds is over-whelming and unlike birding in the tropical Americas, the birds are easy to see! I personally added 419 lifers! The pace of the tour was ideal.  Accommodations were top-notch and the meals wonderful. Keith Valentine is an unsurpassed tour leader.  Extremely knowledgeable yet very laid back, approachable and quick to laugh. I have been on many organized bird tours but none come close to the standards set by Rockjumper on this tour. The bar has been raised!

    TB, Eastern South Africa 2010
  • The birds were magnificent, and when you combine this with the awesome guide combo of Adam Walleyn and the ‘Big G’ (Gareth Robbins), it made for a once in a lifetime trip. Thanks again Rockjumper for delivering a first-class birding experience.

DH & RD, Papua New Guinea
  • Wayne Jones is without a doubt one of the best guides I’ve ever been with.  His ability to identify birds “on the wing” is unequaled.

    LF, NBZ III 2015
  • Dušan is an exceptional guide in all respects. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, is courteous and diplomatic with the clients, and excellent with the local people. I could not ask for anything more. Thank you very much for providing this tour. For me, it was a success in every way. I will definitely recommend Rockjumper to anyone interested in birding in the future. You guys do a great job.

    BS, Guatemala 2017
  • This was my 8th tour with Rockjumper, so I obviously am a happy and loyal customer, and this tour was up to the standard I have come to expect. Heinz, our guide, was charming and funny, outstanding with the birds and excellent in dealing with logistics. I would be very happy to travel with him again. The Itinerary was well planned. Both our drivers were also great – friendly, extremely competent, and full of useful local information. The vehicles were comfortable and accommodations were much more luxurious than I am used to on birding tours. I could easily have stayed another three weeks.

    RL, Kenya & Tanzania
  • I thought David was an excellent guide. He certainly knows his birds and was very passionate and I also found him to be very keen to discuss birds and pass on knowledge; I enjoyed being able to share his passion. I also found him to be friendly and I had the impression that he was always trying to make sure that the group was generally satisfied. He was certainly very thorough at making sure that everybody had seen all the birds.

    FH, Southern India
  • Forrest Rowland is an outrageously skilled guide (I called him the Eagle-sighted Echolocator). Perfect organisation, perfect local guides, what more could one need? And the birding was better than first class. A perfect 10 on all counts!

    PR, Guyana
  • Gareth studiously worked to meet each participant’s individual needs without sacrificing the overall experience of the group. His audio sense and grasp of song probably even exceeded his other birding skills (which were quite formidable in the own right). His sense of humour and engagement with people was excellent.

DH, South Africa Comp V 2015
  • This was our first tour with Rockjumper and it was absolutely fabulous. Adam Walleyn is by far the best bird guide we have ever had the privilege of working with. His combined qualities as the overall tour leader in terms of personality, ability to deal with whatever got thrown at him and interactive skills were all great. He was very good at keeping us informed of what was planned and was happening next. He was very good at imposing a gentle but essential discipline on the group – rotation in the procession, rotation of positions in the buses, ensuring that everyone got to see the bird – all made for a really good functionality in the group. His sharpness in the field, knowledge of bird calls and bird identification were simply remarkable.

    PF & BF, Madagascar 2017
  • This private tour, organised by Rockjumper, allowed us to visit some fantastic areas in the country. Our main focus was on birds, with Pel’s Fishing Owl and Shoebill high on our “would like to see” lists. We saw both of them really well, along with another 56 lifers. The Shoebill sighting will remain in our memories for many years, as we waded through the marsh to see both adults close to the nest, plus a well-grown youngster! The overall Bird List totalled some 320 species, along with 47 species of mammal. Highlights of the mammal sightings included an hour spent with a hunting Leopard, a couple of Lionesses with five cubs, a Cheetah with six cubs and sightings of four different Serval.

The pace of the tour was excellent and staying for three nights in a small number of sites gave us the opportunity to really explore the different habitats. The accommodation throughout was fantastic. David Hoddinott was a fantastic leader and was aptly supported by the local guides.

    DC, Zambia 2017
  • We had a great time with Forrest Rowland in Colombia. A wonderful country. Forrest is a fantastic birder and a great guide.

    MK, Colombia 2017
  • I still find it hard to believe that we saw all 40 of my targets in Cuba – you led a great trip and it was great birding with you again.

    NP, Cuba
